Casts: Hyun Bin, Lee Yeon Hee; Director: Kim Tae Kyun; Romance, Drama; Language: Korean
Couldn’t really say that this movie was particularly good. Cause how many times can you endure the story line that involve a poor-beautiful orphan girl who happen to have cancer or some sort and a young-good looking-rich but have a bad attitude rich handsome guy? Ups, sorry, guess I’ve mentioned the rich and handsome part for more than once, huh? Which actually was my point! But somehow they tried to make this movie slide away anyway. Imagine that!
I watched it because after watching My Name is Kim Sam Soon, I thought I understood why Hyun Bin had became such a popular icon in Korea. There was even an article somewhere stating that when conducting a survey on which actor’s face Korean male would like to copy for plastic surgery and Hyun Bin’s name was the one getting the highest score; though the trend was undoubtedly has change now, heard that Lee Joon Gi’s was the one nowadays. But anyhow, I didn’t find the same charm on Hyun Bin in this movie. It was kind of… flat… just like that.
The story: After the death of his wealthy grandfather, Hyun Bin inherited a large sum and a five star hotel business at his high school age. But the fun was over in a flash because the grandfather had laid some conditions: Hyun Bin has to graduate high school in his grandfather small home town and discover something more important than any fortune in the world. He met Lee Yeon Hee, a sweet orphan girl, in this small town and after some struggling realized that he may have found his first love.
The efforts of the sweet orphan girl on transforming the cute annoying boy were even felt lost without a trace, while those were supposed to be the essence on this type of story. The only thing that rather took me in was its great ten minutes opening that was quite unusual and felt somehow would unraveled some witty secrets at the story ending. Alas, I was left disappointed when the time really did come. I should had not have my hopes too high…
