Movie: Derailed

Casts: Clive Owen, Jennifer Aniston, Vincent Cassel
Director: Mikael Hafstrom

Definitely not the movie you’ll want to watch before going to bed. Living up its genre, this tense thriller will surely made you gasping for air. The story was gripping and the casts were awesome; their chemistry was undeniable.

Ad executive Charles (Owen) was living his life with the burden of unsatisfying marriage. He had to let go his ideal job as a teacher to afford medication’s fees for his diabetic daughter. In their constant anguish for their child, Charles and his wife even seemed to have lost the passion for each other. In this straining routine life, he met Lucinda (Aniston), the beautiful, smart and attractive financial analyst and immediately found solace in her. Lunch meeting, dinner and drinks… a hotel room was seemed to be the next inevitable step.

Charles never imagined that one wrong decision could lead to a series of threats that really turned his life into a one long-felt like a never ending-nightmare. Charles and Lucinda were about to be unfaithful to their spouses when a sadistic thief, La Roche (Vincent Cassel), breaks into the room, robbed them and raped Lucinda. Charles was tortured with guilt but the two of them felt that they couldn’t go to the police and risking their marriage; the situation La Roche conveniently used to blackmail Charles to his last dime.

The scenes in this movie would without a doubt, unfortunately, linger in your mind for a depressing while. The scene when Lucinda was raped made me clenched my poor innocent pillow so tight that if the pillow was someone’s neck, I think I would have been convicted with murder. When La Roche came to Charles’ house and casually exchanging pleasantry with his wife and daughter, I felt like going mad and had the urge to kick him out from that house. When he touched and kissed Charles’ daughter’s cheeks, I felt like shouting, “Get your hands OFF her, you filth!!!” Apparently, this movie was a very emotional experience for me. Hahaha.

A friend of mine told me that Vincent Cassel tends to give you that anger when playing the antagonist. She pointed out Ocean 12, Cassel played Night Fox in it, and then I understood. He definitely should get THE BEST VILLAIN award!!

The best part of this movie was of course the wrapping up of the whole story, the oh-so-ever-sweet-sweet revenge! So glad I am that this movie had a happy ending. Well, at least for me, that is.
