SURPRISE! SURPRISE! I just knew the whole sailing into the sunset was too good to be true for Pacey and Joey. As this was the first time for me to watch the season, I found myself dreading every episode of this season; every last one of it seemed to have been designed as another reason why the two of them simply cannot be together. And well, whaddaya know… the ending was breaking my heart to bits and bits…
The Pacey-Joey’s breaking up episode was definitely touching. Pacey’s line was destined to linger in your mind until the last episode of this season:
“Right now we're just two people with two different paths. Boston and Capeside… All your life, you have been working so hard to get out from this town, to leave Capeside. Well, Jo, I am Capeside. And you deserve better."
Sob sob…
The season ended with every characters went pursuing their new path of life: Dawson went to LA; Pacey went sailing to the Caribbean; Joey, Jen, Jack, and Jen’s grandmother decided to go to Boston. It also ended with something you wouldn’t suspect in a million years—please kindly note that I’m really being sarcastic here—Dawson and Joey kissed.
I can say that so far this is the least of my favorite Dawson’s Creek season. I didn’t really get the “care” for Dawson’s relationship with his first adolescence’s crush, Gretchen, Pacey’s big sister. Even though some new appearances had helped soothed my watching it: Drue Valentine (Matkevich) and Tobey Barret (Monahan). Drue was Jen’s old partner in rebellious life of New York who turned out to be the last guy Jen was courting before coming to Capeside. And Tobey was Jack’s new love interest, who, I must say, so very cute!! :-p
What’s with all the cute/handsome, loving and understanding, oh so-glamorous gay’s representations in American television/movie anyway? Remember Rupert Everett’s George in My Best Friend’s Wedding who completely stole your love away from Dermot Mulroney?
Anyway here’s an interesting paragraph I found in tv.com that I think really sum-up this TV Series’ characters: Dawson's Creek is based loosely on Kevin Williamson's life during his adolescence. The different characters in the show represent the different parts of who Williamson was or how he saw himself: Dawson, the dreamer; Joey the cynic; Pacey the joker; Jen the rebel. Jack was added to represent Williamson's sexuality.
Can't wait to see the next season...
